Underpinning the 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy, the Government has launched a live Infrastructure Pipeline outlining £530 billion of projects and programmes to be completed over the next 10 years.
The Pipeline is the first main project of the recently-created National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA).
Following last month’s announcement that at least £725 billion of Government funding would be allocated to infrastructure over the coming decade, the Pipeline aims to provide clarity for the construction industry and give firms the confidence they need to invest in major UK infrastructure projects.
What will the Infrastructure Pipeline do?
The Pipeline will provide real time updates on 780 planned private and public sector projects that are either under construction, in development, or at an early stage of planning.
Real-time information will enable firms, developers, and investors to plan for the long term, create good quality jobs, and manage supply chain capacity.
As well as providing details of individual projects, users will also be able to look at the full range of planned investments.
By providing a more consistent picture of significant infrastructure investments planned by both government and the private sector, the pipeline also aims to improve the quality of policy making, spending decisions and the delivery of major projects.
How often will it be updated?
The Pipeline will managed by NISTA and updated on a regular basis.
NISTA has stated: “The Pipeline will be regularly updated initially on a six monthly schedule and will develop incrementally over time for increased completeness and to more fully meet user needs.”
This means that the construction industry can expect the first set of updates to appear in January 2026.
However, construction firms need to be aware that there are a number of known gaps in the Pipeline that NISTA aims to address in future updates.
Additionally, because the Pipeline follows the policy responsibilities of the UK Government, it does not include all infrastructure projects in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Users are encouraged to provide feedback to NISTA on how to improve the data gathered for the Pipeline.
